God’s Heart

You often hear people say they want God’s heart. But what does that look like? Do we really know what we’re saying? It is such a vast statement and one not to be taken lightly.

God is better than any of us could ever be. Yet his heart is the very thing that draws us in. Some of the attributes of God’s heart is Faith, Hope, Love, Compassion, Sacrifice, and Redemption.

First God is righteous in everything he does. God forgives. God is compassionate. God is merciful. God is good. God gives justice. God heals the brokenhearted. God is good to all. God is faithful. God never abandons us. God is gracious. God heals. God restores. God blesses. God is filled with kindness. God is slow to anger. God is all these things and more all the time.

Oh, what a wonderful place it would be if we all had God’s heart. I often pray and ask God to teach me how to love how he loves. That love is something else! A love so deep it penetrates our very soul.

The Bible shows us the way to God‘s heart is to do his will. We must be committed to God’s purpose. Imagine selflessness, imagine continual forgiveness, imagine putting others before yourself. Imagine sacrifice, imagine caring so much about people that you are willing to go after them to the ends of the earth. Imagine comforting, imagine your word meaning something. Imagine backing up what you say. Imagine people being able to count on you. This is but a glimpse of what it looks like to have God’s heart.

So while we strive on this earth Lord, as we purpose to be more like you, as we encounter your people daily, allow us to love like you, and represent you well in everything we do.

Amen.
